NASHA NOT ONLY ABOUT BOLD SCENES POONAM PANDEYA

'NASHA' NOT ONLY ABOUT BOLD SCENES: POONAM PANDEYA younger man’s infatuation for an older woman is not new in Bollywood movies. Many films over the years — Mera Naam Joker (1972), Doosra Aadmi (1977), Ek Nai Paheli (1984), Maya Memsaab (1993) and Ek Chhotisi Love Story (2002) — have explored the idea.

And now, after over a decade, Amit Saxena’s Nasha recreates a similar theme with Poonam Pandey and Shivam Patil in the lead. So, what will set it apart? The team shares their take on the movie, which has been produced by Surender Suneja and Aditya Bhatia.

Poonam Pandey
This film has all the ingredients that a commercial venture should have. It is not only about bold and intense scenes; there are tears and emotions too. When the script was narrated to me, I heard it not from an actor’s, but the audience’s point of view. I can confidently say that the film will leave them satisfied.

Amit Saxena
There’s a different twist in this love tale. The maturity with which an 18-year-old boy and a 25-year-old woman handle the situation is the essence of the plot. The film puts across a positive message and has no negativity attached to it. The story presentation is classy and not crass.

Aditya Bhatia
I have backed this film purely for personal reasons. I remember a young Rishi Kapoor watching a semi-nude Simi Garewal in Mera Naam Joker — that scene has stayed with me since childhood. That sight transforms Rishi from a teen into a man! The teenager in our film experiences something similar. I also had a crush on my teacher and Nasha’s story brought back memories of those days. It struck an emotional chord with me.

Nasha, under the banner of Eagle Home Entertainment and One Line Cinema, releases today.

Big Patch-up 2: After SRK-Sallu, now Bebo and PC end war!

Apparently, Kareena Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra, who were shooting in the same suburban studio met each other and had a long chat. After Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan's recent attempt at rapprochement, camaraderie is in the air in B Town. Kareena Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra are apparently the latest addition to the list of those mending fences.

On Monday, the actresses were shooting in the same suburban studio next to each other. While Bebo was filming a commercial, PC was shooting for her Mary Kom bio pic.

Says an onlooker, 'They were aware about each other's presence in the vicinity. Unit hands were on tenterhooks on what would happen if their paths crossed considering the cold vibes Bebo and PC share.'

Throughout the day, the stars were busy with their shoots. Adds the source, 'Late evening however when Kareena had wrapped up her shoot and was walking towards her car which was close to PC's vanity van, the latter went up to her and greeted her. Bebo was cordial and they chatted for a while.'

Interestingly, Kareena and PC were once best of friends and used to hang out together with their then respective beaus Shahid Kapoor and Harman Baweja. But things became awkward between them when Shahid and Priyanka were rumoured to be dating. Kareena along with her sister Karisma had also attended the condolence meeting for Priyanka's dad last month.

Is there a shortage of actresses in B-Town?

Is there a shortage of actresses in B-Town?

Filmmakers feel presently there is an acute shortage of female leads in the industry with most of them facing casting woes or having to wait for months for their dates.

Almost every beauty pageant participant aspires to be an actress as soon as she is crowned. Small screen names hope to step on to the big screen while models are keen to trade in their catwalks for the celluloid. Add to this the plethora of girls who harbour dreams of lighting up the marquee. The girls may be willing and able but are they capable?

Shraddha Kapoor is seeking mileage from buzz about refusing offers.

Most filmmakers feel there is a shortage of girls in the industry. Recently when filmmakers like Imtiaz Ali, Vikramaditya Motwane, Rohan Sippy and Vipul Shah among others had got together at the Mid-day office to discuss things they wished were a part of the industry, Motwane had quipped, `There's a real shortage of girls in the industry today.'

To which Imtiaz had added, 'Every time, one of us starts making a movie, we begin to look for girls who can act and you inevitably see that there's really nobody. While Sippy opined, 'Nowadays the secretaries /managers of the actress make them models - not actresses.

Asin only wants to work with the leading stars

Earlier, they were instinctive and knew what they are here for. Modelling agencies are now thinking that it's a similar thing to do when it clearly isn't. Yes, it's not easy to find actresses nowadays.'

Shah had added, `Unfortunately, the Indian mindset is that shaadi ho gayi toh buddhi ho gayi. A married actress can't take up so many projects. In fact, you see how our actresses don't get married till they are 35 or 37 because they believe in this perception, as there is a shift in audiences' love for them. They might be mature but the perception changes already.'

Diana Penty is in no hurry to sign her second film

Also, with some actresses preferring to be visible and raking in the moolah through event appearances and brand endorsements, they are in no hurry to continue doing any film. A Shraddha Kapoor may be infamous for rejecting roles while a Diana Penty is in no hurry to do a second film.

PLEASE DON’T COMPARE ME WITH SUNNY LEONE: POONAM PANDEY

Controversy queen Poonam Pandey, ready for her Bollywood innings with bold project "Nasha", is fed up of being compared to Indo -Canadian porn star Sunny Leone.

"I am tired of this comparison. I don't know why people compare me with Sunny Leone. I'm here to act and you will see me acting in the film. There are intimate scenes in the film, but there is also a love story. I'm not a porn star. Please don't compare me with Sunny Leone," Poonam said here.

Poonam, who grabbed headlines during the 2011 Cricket World Cup when she offered to go nude before Team India if they won the trophy, is confident that audiences will be satisfied with her performance in "Nasha".

"So far people have only seen my bold pictures, now they will see me acting in 'Nasha', and I assure they will be completely satisfied with my performance in the film," added the young actress, who keeps her fans abreast with her daily activities through online networking platforms.

Directed by Amit Saxena, "Nasha" features debutant Shivam opposite Poonam Pandey. The film is produced by Surender Suneja and Aditya Bhatia under the banner of Eagle Home Entertainment. The film is slated for release July 26.

Nargis Fakhri's effort goes in vain

Nargis Fakhri's effort goes in vain

An injured Nargis Fakhri had to rehearse for her dance number only to have it changed the next day. This seems
to be a case of much ado about nothing. Nargis Fakhri spent an entire day with her leg in a bandage for a music track that was eventually struck off, after director Rajkumar Santoshi didn't approve of it. According to sources, Nargis had been suffering from a muscle pull.

A unit hand says, 'The actress rehearsed for her item number on Wednesday night as it had to be shot the next day. But Santoshi didn't like the song and it was dropped the next day.'

Apparently, Nargis had to do her act all over again on Thursday night and it was filmed on Friday.

Shah Rukh, Salman end 5-year-old rivaly at Iftar party

Shah Rukh, Salman end 5-year-old rivaly at Iftar party.

Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan who came face to face at an Iftar party hugged each other.

Just a day after Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan who were shooting at a Suburban studio together conveniently avoided each other, they greeted each other with the formal handshake and then hugged each other at Baba Siddiqui's Iftar party at a Suburban Hotel last evening.

While Salman who had reached the venue around 6:30 was sitting with his friends for Iftar, Shah Rukh Khan entered around 7:15. Shah Rukh and Salman were sitting two tables away from other.

According to a source present at the venue, "Baba Siddiqui went and spoke to Salman as well as Shah Rukh and called them together. When the two came together face to face there was slight awkwardness on their faces but later both of them shook hands and hugged each other."

After the Iftar party, Salman Khan left as he is shooting for Big Boss Season 6 at a suburban studio. While Shah Rukh who was sitting with Salman Khan's father Salim Khan throughout the party, had dinner also with him.

The two superstars had fought way back in 2008 in Katrina Kaif's birthday party at Olive. After that the two have never seen each other face to face.

Baba Siddiqui's friend and Real Estate Developer Shadaab Patel who also happens to be a common friend of Salman and Shah Rukh said, "I was so happy to see both of them meet.

Initially it was a little awkward but they met and hugged. Now I pray that the two meet more often and finish the animosity between them. Shah Rukh not only had dinner with Salim uncle but also the two were engrossed in a detail conversation all the time."

Salman and SRK had previously fought way back in 2003 also when Salman had barged on the sets of SRK's film Chalte Chalte in order to forcibly meet Aishwarya Rai . The two eventually made up by the end of 2004 at the pre-marriage ceremony of Farah Khan.

Kiss with Parineeti to create problem for Sushant-Ankita's love life

Kiss with Parineeti to create problem for Sushant-Ankita's love life?

Sushant Singh Rajput is apparently nervous about having locked lips with co-star Parineeti Chopra in their next film without his girlfriend Ankita Lokhande's knowledge.

The much-married Shah Rukh Khan has done it and so has Aamir. Insiders say Sushant Singh Rajput, who is in a relationship with Ankita Lokhande, apparently shares a kiss with his co-star Parineeti Chopra in their next film.

But the actor apparently is very nervous since his girlfriend has no knowledge about her beau's lip-lock scene.

A source says, 'It's Sushant's second film and his first on-screen kiss. But unfortunately for him, he had not informed Ankita about it. The trailers have gone on air and he fears his girlfriend will come to know about it now.'

We don't know how Ankita will react but we hope she can get rid of her insecurities if any. Both Sushant and Ankita remained unavailable for comment.

Some Bollywood actors seem to be making headlines

Some Bollywood actors seem to be making headlines more for their antics than their acting chops. They may have showcased their acting skills and bagged several more offers but their on-screen histrionics pale when it comes to their off-screen shenanigans.

Some how they manage to get bad press either due to their foot-in-the-mouth syndrome, their attitudes, goof ups or due to their make believe. They also don't seem to care about the result because they are so busy making their next maneouvre, which yet again will land them on a sticky wicket. There are several such folk in B-Town of late....

Shraddha Kapoor

After her big ticket Aashiqui 2, the actress has only been in the news for rejecting any offer that features 'older' stars like John Abraham and Abhishek Bachchan.

She would rather settle for the younger lot like Sidharth Malhotra with whom she features in an upcoming project. Shakti Kapoor's daughter has denied that she refused any such offers and finds such stuff absurd...till we hear about the next 'oldie' she has refused a film with.

Ranveer Singh

He seems to thrive on doing anything that will garner attention. From his sudden leaps on the red carpet to his moustache twirling antics and even how he can woo a girl in 10 seconds flat. RS sure knows how to make infamous copy.

Huma Qureshi

Ever since her debut in Gangs of Wasseypur, she has been tackling with her size issues. Initially it was because of her role demands but over time, she and her flab became a talking point. The actress however was in no mood to shy away, as she keeps stepping out in outfits that far from flatter her.

Richa Chadda

She tops the list and probably walks away with the crown. Her dates for her film with Sanjay Leela Bhansali and another project with Pooja Bhatt are clashing she makes sure everyone within her earshot distance hears her out.

Strangely she is keen they solve it. The actress leaves nothing to grab attention and makes a spectacle, which includes stuff like her leg getting injured every few months to how she is often mistaken for Hollywood hottie Salma Hayek.

Ayushmann Khurrana

After Vicky Donor, he apparently seemed to be keen to act only with A-list actresses. He ruffled several feathers till he landed a film with Sonam Kapoor. Think 'big' and then leap motto left him with bad press about his attitude.

Movie Review: D-Day is a thrilling affair

Movie Review: 'D-Day' is a thrilling affair
By Subhash K Jha

Cast: Rishi Kapoor, Irrfan, Arjun Rampal, Huma Qureshi, Shruti Haasan, Sriswara, Aakaash Dahiya, Nasser and Chandan Roy Sanyal

Director: Nikhil Advani

Rating: * * * *

Fragrant pencils and the stench of blood... Irrfan's character identifies flavoured pencils with his undying love for his son even when his life is soaked in the blood of traitors and other modern-day heroes. Funny, how two entirely disparate experiences can co-exist in a work of art!

And make no mistake, Nikhil Advani's sixth feature film is an acutely accomplished work of art. It's a thriller, yes. About the enforced extradition of a Dawood-like gangster.

But what I came away with was a haunting love story between a mysterious Indian intelligence agent and a Pakistani sex worker, both wounded and scarred for life. She in ways that we can see. He in intangible ways. But pain, at the end of the day, is pain. It's what binds together the sex-worker and the ex-army man.

Shot in an expertly constructed brothel sets with the crowded colours of lurid sex suggesting the tragedy of lives lived in borrowed beds, the scenes between Arjun Rampal and Shruti Haasan are punctured by piercing silences and a haunting melody about love, loss and incomplete lives sung by Rekha Bharadwaj.

Later, much later, the girl is tortured to painful death by a sadistic butcher, gleefully played by Chandan Roy Sanyal.

In one of the most innovative editing techniques applied to a Hindi cinema (editors Aarif Sheikh and Unni Krishnan can take a bow), we see the scarred prostitute's torture and death through Arjun Rampal eyes as though he were there when it happened, when he was not.

And in the background a haunting Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy song "Alvida" plays with assertive evocativeness, reminding us that the end of love is always death.

The love story could have been the entire script of Advani's film. But "D-Day" -- odd title since the antagonist is no more named Dawood -- has a lot more to say, and it says it with in a tone of unfussy enrapturing elan that invites us into its midst without using gimmicky methods of enticement.

The screenplay by Advani, Ritesh Shah and Suresh Nair constructs a collage of characters hell-bent on a collision course. Though rigorously researched, the erudition sits easily, spontaneously and unobtrusively on Advani's narration.

The story of a bunch of RAW agents on a mission in Pakistan to nab "India's Most Wanted" is told in a tone that favours a detached distance from the proceedings while ensuring we see each character's life in prismatic close-ups.

Though a deeply patriotic film, "D-Day" indulges in no flag-waving. The Indian flag makes one guest appearance, and that too at the end. God bless Manoj Kumar.

Every character in "D-Day", even the dreaded caricatural Bhai (the don named, ha ha, Goldman), is a prisoner of his own lost dreams and aspirations.

The RAW heroes are thrown in our face without elaborate preamble. The very attractive Huma Qureshi as the RAW agent Zoya has her personal life in shambles. But we never see her unhappy husband. We only hear him. And we're happy that he speaks about their distressed relationship in the voice of the very talented Raj Kumar Yadav.

Every character, visible or invisible, speaks to us in urgent desperate tones. And within 20 minutes of the playing-time we're consumed by these doomed lives that seem to have lived on the edge forever and have nowhere to go except the abyss.

With astonishing impunity Advani sketches half-finished all his characters. These are people whose dreams can never come true.

The film's deep affinity to the business of unfinished lives gives a cutting edge to Advani's narration. As the plot progresses, the narration gets only more and more involving and intriguing until from Karachi we reach breathlessly to the Indian side of the Indo-Pak border where Rishi Kapoor gives a sneering contemptuous speech on the Indian government's inability to control terrorists and terrorism.

This is as good a place as any to say "D-Day" is crammed with remarkable actors furnishing the anxious proceedings with a riveting life-force.

Rishi as the gangster is, of course, first-rate. When is he anything less? While conveying the sinister slimy side of the gangster, Rishi also gives a comic interpretation to the rotund goggled perpetrator of mayhem. Yup, this guy is having himself a blast.

The other actors too are entirely in their element. Arjun and Shruti's tragic love story is played by the actors in muted mellow muffled shades. Arjun seems to become a more evolved actor with every role. As for Irrfan, his portrayal of a man on a suicidal mission trying to hold on to the memory of his wife and son is so vivid you can touch his anguish.

Newcomer Sriswara is extremely credible as Irrfan's wife, while Huma as the third member of the RAW team is effortlessly appealing and effective.

Newcomer Akaash Dahiya as the fourth RAW team-member is so much on the edge, you want to hold him back from toppling over.

The cinematography by Tushar Kanti Ray uses cluttered garish spaces to create a sense of spiritual emptiness during times of tremendous stress and anxiety. This is a film with world-class action scenes. But it is not an action film. It's a film about love and loss. But it isn't a love story.

So what is it we are looking at here? Go find out for yourself. With this one film, Advani joins the ranks of the most accomplished young filmmakers of Hindi cinema and by far Karan Johar's Dharma Productions proudest product.

Exotic Priyanka's glitter overdose swimsuit

Oops! 'Exotic' Priyanka's glitter overdose and swimsuit gaffe

It seems the Priyanka has gone overboard with her costumes in her new music video with Pitbull. While some sections of the international press seems to be going gaga over Priyanka Chopra's new music video featuring Pittbull, a bitchy actress seems to be raising her well-arched eyebrows in surprise

According to her, quite contrary to the title of the track Exotic, PC looks a bit... errm... tacky.

The birdie chirps, 'Piggy Chops has gone a bit overboard with her whole 'glittering' look. Not only are her costumes screaming too loud for attention, she seems to have bathed in oil for her swimsuit sequence.'

While our chidiya may be reaching out for her sunnies to hide from the glare, we wish PC better luck next time.

Anushka survives wardrobe malfunction to meet Madhuri

Despite suffering from a wardrobe malfunction, Anushka Sharma couldn't miss watching Madhuri Dixit perform live. Now, Madhuri Dixit will be too pleased to hear about this one. Apparently despite suffering from a wardrobe malfunction, Anushka Sharma couldn't keep herself from watching the dhak dhak diva performing live on stage at a recent awards event in Macau.

According to sources, Anushka was draped in an expensive ivory-coloured gown from the house of Roberto Cavalli. She was interacting with the in-house video team post receiving her award, when she got to know about Mads' performance. She literally ran from the spot and got her dress caught in the process. The fabric tore on a screw that was jutting out.'

An insider says, 'Anushka was in love with her gown. In the past, she has been complimented by the designer himself on how graciously she carries off his creations. But looks like this time, the actress had her priorities elsewhere.'

Apparently, the gown is no longer in a condition to be worn again. Looks like Anushka doesn't need an excuse to go shopping now.

Review of "Bhaag Milkha Bhaag" by Dipashri Bardhan

Review of "Bhaag Milkha Bhaag" by Dipashri Bardhan
(A Winsome Story Of Discipline & Hard Work !!)

FLASHBACK: Sometime around the year 1992, Kolkata ;

Question: Who was the first president of Independent India?
Answer: Rajendra Prasad.

Question: Which cloud is responsible for rain?
Answer: Nimbus Clouds.

Question: Lemon is the source of which Vitamin?
Answer: Vitamin C.

Question: Who is called 'Flying Sikh' ?
Answer: Milkha Singh.

I stopped for a while. Was reading General Knowledge for an upcoming exam in school, when I was in 5th Standard.Closed the book, looked outside the window & started thinking that how can a man be termed as 'flying' ? Is he an expert pilot or loves to jump all the time, so that he can stay in the air as much as he can? Opened the book again to get a clue, but, that small general knowledge book was only full of questions which were written in a sentence & their respective answers, written in a word or two words maximum.

Had to wait till night, when my father returned home from office.Asked him the same.He solved the mystery with a smiling face, "Here the word 'fly' stands for 'run'.Milkha Singh can run with such a great speed, that it looks like as if he is flying like a bird, almost as fast as a stormy wind.Thats why he won most of the races he ran & rightly termed as Flying Sikh" !!

MOVIE: Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra Pictures & Viacom 18 Motion Pictures' 'Bhaag Milkha Bhaag' mesmerizes the audience with the dramatic life of India's legendary athlete Milkha Singh.Being a biopic, this cinematic sparkle glitters with several shades of human expressions-Pain + Happiness + Romance + Anger + Frustration + Defeat & Victory !! Thanks to all the promotions (especially that teaser trailer which was released on 29th November, 2012) that the expectation encircling this movie enviably crossed the barrier. However, such expectation always comes accompanied by it's two offsprings-

1) Great possibility to score high at Box Office collections in the opening weekend & 2) If the story fails to click at public's heart, then a probability of the same success graph falling down miserably, in the next or following weekends !!

So, let me assemble the positive & negative points of 'Bhaag Milkha Bhaag' to find out whether the film is value for money or not !!

'LIKE's: The movie marked a fascinating impression terms of;

1) Story-Screenplay-Dialogue-Lyrics: Prasoon Joshi
2) Music: Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy
3) Cinematography: Binod Pradhan
4) Hair Design: B.Blunt
5) Set Design: Sumit Basu
6) Appropriate selection of all the actors/actresses: Aadore Mukherjee & Dilip Shankar (Casting Directors)
7) Choreography: Ganesh Acharya, Shiamak Davar & Vaibhavi Merchant Costume Design: Dolly Ahluwalia
9) Action sequences: Allan Amin
10) Acting: Standing Ovation to Farhan Akhtar for giving a clap worthy performance.Besides, Divya Dutta, Sonam Kapoor, Prakash Raj, Yograj Singh, Jabtej Singh, Meesha Shafi, Pawan Malhotra etc. also supported the script well.

11) Direction: Finally, Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra's masterly narration glittered the entire photoplay with three key ingredients:

a) EARTH: In many scenes, for example: The speedy running sequences or, Romancing in a sandy sea beach or Simply falling on ground after an extensive physical exhaustion, the smooth & rough particles of Earth have been aesthetically used to bring that 'earthy' touch in the lens of camera !!

b) WATER: Scenes like: Depicting a large mug or a bucket being filled up gradually with Milkha's sweat, thereby conveying the range of his dedication toward exercise + When a ball stuffed with Milkha/Biro's love letter dropped into a container full of water, then as an after effect the water droplets rose like a mini-fountain from that small container, along with portraying several colors defining each watery lines and attributing to the visual delight of the show !!

c) MASCULINITY: The outstanding representation of a well-built male figure through Farhan Akhtar's physique surely makes a great impact.Surprisingly, maximum people consider a flawless female figure as the last word of art (sculpture or painting). On the contrary, I have seen many people standing like a statue for hours in front of the replica of David (the sculptural masterpiece made by Michelangelo in 1504) in Victoria & Albert Museum, London. Also heard that the original one (kept in Florence, Italy) is so beautiful that people often start crying by merely staring at it.

The unique arrangement of Biceps + Triceps + Deltoid + Trapezius + Extensor + Sternocleidomastoid + Rectus Abdominus + Brachialis + Serratus Anterior & Pectoralis Major (male muscular system of upper body) can arguably contribute to a better level of seductivity through machismo & thats again proved through Farhan Akhtar in 'Bhaag Milkha Bhaag'.

'DISLIKE's: 1) At times, the length (188 minutes) of the movie bores people.Saw some of the audience babbling or checking messages in their mobile at a few repetitive scenes.

2) Editing by P.S.Bharathi disappoints in first half of the film.

3) Make up design by Vikram Gaikwad is impressive barring those two close up shots of Sonam Kapoor where her eyebrows looked as neatly trimmed as a modern urban girl (for the absence of unwanted extra hair) + eyes quoted with kajal in her upper eyelids. That obviously added to her beauty but took away that required rustic appeal for village girls of that era (1950s) did not know how to trim eyebrow or used to paint kajal only in the lower eyelid.

CLOSURE: All said and done, 'Bhaag Milkha Bhaag' entrancingly upheld those lines of Roman Polanski: "Cinema should make you forget you are sitting in a theater".Such a wondrous filmic experience it is !!

Undoubtedly, it is Absolutely Recommended !!

Got 5 out of 5 Stars! Don't miss 'Bhaag Milkha Bhaag' at any cost

Got 5 out of 5 Stars! Don't miss 'Bhaag Milkha Bhaag' at any cost

History is created in several ways. One of them is cinema. And if Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra's Bhaag Milkha Bhaag seems like a near-flawless homage to the flying spirit of India's greatest runner it is partly because the story, so nimbly woven into a pastiche of drama emotion humour and pathos by Prasoon Joshi, is in no hurry to keep pace with the on-screen Milkha's breathless sprint.

The story of super-sprinter Milkha Singh unfolds in this exceptional bio-pic at its own volition. There's no effort here `to tell a story`, to create an impression or to whip up a dramatic storm to captivate audiences. The synergy in the storytelling seems subliminal.

Still, we the audience, fed week after week on mediocrity masquerading as cinema, are riveted to the story Milkha Singh for over 3 hours of playing-time?

How come? ! Well, to begin with it is Milkha Singh's own powerful life as India's superstar sportsperson that sweeps us into the bio-pic. Milkha was so poor he couldn't afford running shoes, and when he got them he didn't know how to run in them. When milk was offered in the army in exchange of running practice he grabbed it (the run and the milk) with both hands.

A victim of India's brutal Partition, Milkha's story was waiting to be told. Thankfully no one before Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra saw cinematic potential in Milkha's story.

If Milkha's story had to be told, the storyteller had to be a master craftsman, and one who doesn't waste space in self-congratulatory flourishes. Rakeysh Ompraksh Mehra reins in the drama.

With immense help from Prasoon Joshi, Mehra harnesses Milkha's life-story into an experience that is Pure Cinema and yet undiluted and uncompromised by the mandatory often silly illogical and idiotic semantics of mainstream commercial cinema.

The absolutely seamless editing (by P. Bharathi) is impressive. The film is very stylishly cut. But not at the cost of losing the saadgi, the innate ascetism of the sportsman-hero.

And yes, there are songs, heart-gamboling songs composed by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy. But they are so effortlessly woven into Milkha's saga we don't see them as 'song breaks'.

We see them as expressions of that innocent joy which springs out of Mehra's Milkha like milk from a cow's unconditionally nurturing udder.

And yes, this is as good a time as any to tell you, Farhan Akhtar dances the Bhangra as well as any Punjabi. Actually, he doesn't dance. He just flows with the rhythm. I've never seen any actor dance with such rhapsodic abundance. Neither have I seen any actor run like Farhan.

I don't know how fast Milka ran. But Farhan's Milkha doesn't fake it for even a second. When he runs, he really runs. When he stumbles and takes a fall we flinch and wince in our seats. Method acting? Farhan as Milkha takes us beyond that.

His body-language and emotion-expression as Milkha is so pitch-perfect (pun intended) we forget this is not the real Milkha in front of our eyes. Not since Balraj Sahni in Garam Hawa have we seen an actor vanish so effortlessly into his character. This is as real as it gets.

Do you know who she is? Neerja Bhanot

Do you know who she is...??

You may know Kareena, Katrina, Madhuri and Sridevi, but I can confidently say that 95% of Indians would not know this brave lady.

Neerja Bhanot was the senior flight purser on the ill-fated Pan Am Flight 73, hijacked by four heavily armed terrorists after it landed at Karachi at 5 am from Mumbai. PA 73 was en route to Frankfurt and onward to New York City. Neerja alerted the cockpit crew about the hijack and, as the plane was on the tarmac, the three-member cockpit crew of pilot, co-pilot and the flight engineer were able to flee from the aircraft. Neerja, being the most senior cabin crew member on board, took charge.

The hijackers were part of the Palestinian Abu Nidal terrorist organization and were backed by Libya. They immediately shot dead a passenger who identified himself to the terrorists as being an American. The terrorists then instructed Neerja to get the passports collected of all the passengers, so that they could identify the Americans. Neerja, and the other attendants under her charge, hid the passports of the 40 Americans on board.

After 17 hours, the hijackers opened fire and set off explosives. Neerja opened the emergency door and helped a number of passengers escape. She did not herself escape, and became a martyr while shielding 3 children from a hail of bullets. Neerja was recognised internationally as "the heroine of the hijack" and is the youngest recipient of the Ashoka Chakra, India's highest civilian award for bravery.

A square called Neerja Bhanot Chowk is named after her in Mumbai's Ghatkopar (East) suburb by the Mumbai Municipal Corporation, which was inaugurated by Amitabh Bachchan in the early 90's.

Awards:
Flight Safety Foundation Heroism Award, U.S.A.
Ashoka Chakra Award, India
Tamgha-e-Insaaniyat (Awarded for showing incredibly human kindness), Pakistan

Birth report of SRK’s new baby obtained

After much speculation, BMC has confirmed the receipt of the birth report of a baby boy that was born on May 27, 2013, listing Shah Rukh Khan and Gauri Shah Khan as his parents.

The arrival of SRK’s new baby put to rest rumours that have been blazing about the couple’s impending pregnancy with the help of a surrogate mother.

Born at 34 weeks, the little 1.5 kg baby was born at Masrani Hospital for Women in Andheri and later shifted to Nanavati Hospital, Juhu, and finally to Breach Candy Hospital. He is now at home with the Khans.

Earlier reports suggest that the surrogate mother hails from London, but no official details are known of her identity.

Following reports of a pre-natal sex determination test that was allegedly conducted by the Khans, a controversy soon surfaced. The use of sex-determination methods (gender determination) is forbidden according to the Indian Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques Act.

Equipped with a birth report, BMC officials will investigate the issue further with the help of hospital documentation since the child’s birth.

Katrina and Hrithik kissing seen promote their films

(In Camera: Katrina-Hrithik) Bollywood stars go social only to promote their films.

Some stars seem to have no qualms about logging on to the social media only to promote their own professional causes. With social media breaking barriers between celebrities and the public, a lot of Bollywood folk take interest in making their presence felt online. From joining jaunty conversations to vitriolic debates, some stars don't shy away from even giving their fans a sneak-peek into their private lives from time to time.

On the contrary, there are a few, who make sudden appearances followed by quick vamoosing interestingly coinciding with the run-up to their release. Here's taking a look at the usual suspects.

Anushka Sharma dating nowadays

(In the picture: Anushka Sharma and Ranveer Singh) The otherwise feisty actress turns completely dull when she's enquired about her beau - if at all he exists, that is. Coming from a modelling background, with a model boyfriend in arm, Anushka gradually moved onto the big boys. Paired with colleagues like Arjun Kapoor and Ranveer Singh, it's hard to guess who the busy beauty is dating nowadays.

Sonu Nigam's kissing item number

Presently Sonu Nigam to do a thing number

After any semblance of Aamir, Salman and Ranbir Kapoor doing thing tunes, its presently Sonu Nigam's turn. The vocalist will clearly get cool in Akashdeep's approaching film Santa Clause Banta that stars Neha Dhupia and Vir Das. Says Sonu, 'In the track Machli jal ki rani hai, I play myself. Akashdeep is an old companion and has been attempting to persuade me for quite a while to get once more on the screen.'

The vocalist, who as of late shot for the tune, began his acting profession with Jaani Dushman in 2002. Says Sonu, 'I committed a ton of errors when I made my introduction. I was totally innocent when it came to acting. There was no adoptive parent to guide me.'

Presently with his new thing number, we trust Sonu's generally correct.
